[00:00:00] Hello and welcome to Pilates Students' Manual, a podcast helping you get the most out of your Pilates classes. I'm Olivia, and I'll be your host. Join the conversation and share your thoughts on Instagram at @pilatesstudentsmanual. You can support the podcast by visiting buymeacoffee.com/OliviaPodcasts. Let's learn something new.

Hello, hello everybody. And welcome back to Pilates Students' Manual podcast. It is officially season four over here. Woo-hoo. We're doing it. I have felt so conflicted about this [00:01:00] podcast. I feel like I owe you an apology, but at the same time, I know that podcast content is evergreen, so you may have just found the podcast last week and you're like, what are you apologizing for? And I was like, oh, I said, I was going to publish an episode in two weeks and then it was two months or more.

And I definitely bit off a little bit more than I could chew. When I originally started this podcast, as a quick aside, it was during the pandemic. And so I had a lot, a lot of time on my hands and I was like, yeah, I can definitely do two podcasts every week because I was teaching like for three hours. And now I'm teaching for like 30 hours and having a job is wonderful. And I do like that, but it does take a bit of time.

So if you have, I had been following Pilates Students' Manual from the get-go and you're like, what happened to Olivia? I'm still here. I've got good news on the podcast front. And that is that this podcast is back and we'll be releasing episodes every other week. I'm going to be tag teaming Pilates Teachers' Manual, [00:02:00] which is the sister podcast to this podcast, and Pilates Students' Manual and releasing brand new episodes every other week. So that there will always be a little bit of new content either here or over on Pilates Teachers' Manual. But in other news, Pilates Students' Manual is back. Yay!

First thing I want to say is a gigantic thank you to everyone who supported the project to upgrade my podcast studio. I'm hoping that it sounds a little bit less echoey. I'm fiddling around with this super neat isolation shield, which I will post a picture of. And it is a little spiky foam shield that is hopefully going to absorb some of the echo. That can happen in rooms when- that aren't, you know, recording studios.

So I want to say big thank you specifically to Vanessa, Karen, Julie, Danielle, Chelsea, and [00:03:00] Judy. Thank you so, so much for contributing to these podcast upgrades, both in the sound equipment department, but also that, you know, your contributions go towards podcast hosting and transcribing the episodes so that more people can read them. And it's a little one person show. I really appreciate your support.

If you want to hop on that train and also support the podcast, it is super duper easy to do. You can visit my Buy Me a Coffee page at buymeacoffee.com/OliviaPodcasts. You can contribute to the project and leave some nice words, which I like- I don't want to say more because I also appreciate your contributions, but I do really appreciate hearing from you and hearing how the podcast has positively impacted your adventures as well. There is an extra special, thank you coming your way. If you contributed either to the studio upgrades or if you've contributed to [00:04:00] the podcast. So keep an eye out for an extra special Buy Me a Coffee newsletter that is coming your way definitely this week, if it hasn't already arrived. But I do want to thank you for your support always. It means the world.

So the isolation shield is a brand new upgrade that I'm kind of fiddling with. I'll listen to see what it sounds like, and then see if I need to make any adjustments. It, like all things, is a bit of a work in progress, but that's life. And going with the flow is definitely part of it.

Some updates on what has been happening in Olivia land in the past couple months. Chicago is almost well, actually it's not even almost. It's open, open, open. A hundred percent capacity at all things. You know, in classes, students, if they're fully vaccinated can take their masks off. I'm teaching in person doing that [00:05:00] thing. I'm taking classes in person doing that thing. It's a hoot and a half.

Momentum Fest is coming up next week. And I am thrilled from a teacher perspective to hang out with cool teachers, but also extremely thrilled from a student perspective, to be able to take classes and learn from, and think Pilates for an entire weekend with some of the coolest cats in town and out of town and across the world, which is fabulous. That's happening next week.

And if you're attending the virtual conference, as I am, you'll be sent the replays of all of the workshops, which means that you can take all the things, you know, I always wish when I go to a conference. And you know, there's at least one, if not 18 conflicting times where it's like, oh, I really want to go and do this class on the chair, but I really want to go and learn about the shoulder.

Well, you can do both. If you're doing the virtual one, because you can attend one live and then [00:06:00] catch the replay and just learn all you can learn. So Momentum Fest isn't just for teachers, it's definitely for students and people who enjoy moving. So definitely I hope to see you there. Let me know if you're going. Uh, we can hang out virtually if nothing else. That'll be sweet.

Another thing that I've done for myself is as a student of movement, I am taking a workshop with Maria Earle called the Advanced Mover Series. It's kind of diving deep into the who, what, why adventure of Pilates looking at the work of Kathy Grant, who Maria Earle is a student of and Kathy Grant of course learned from Joseph Pilates.

It's kind of incredible to ask questions and try different things and explore. So it's advanced in that we're [00:07:00] taking the work of Pilates and really looking at it critically. And sometimes it's advanced, like you're going in an inversion or you're doing like a quote hard unquote exercise, but it's more advanced in like perceptual terms. Like, can you get in your body and feel this a different way? Can you find this differently? It's incredible. And I'll definitely be talking about it and what I'm learning as a student, as well as how valuable it is to keep learning.

As I mentioned, right from the get go, I am changing up the podcast release schedule for this season, season four of Pilates Students' Manual and for season five of Pilates Teachers' Manual. Because I am running both of those podcasts solo. And just so that I don't leave one podcast on the shelf for a long period of time, I'm going to be releasing episodes on alternate weeks. So next [00:08:00] week on the 25th, there'll be a brand new episode over on Pilates Teachers' Manual. And then the following Friday, on the 2nd of July, there'll be a brand new episode for Pilates Students' Manual. And I will be more regularly present on Instagram. Although I did enjoy a bit of an Instagram vacation, I will be back, uh, sharing some more things and engaging in the Pilates world, hopefully a little bit more consistently. That's the plan at least.

This project has been so amazing as a person who loves Pilates, as a teacher of Pilates as a student of Pilates, connecting with you and, you know, hearing your questions really helps me shape the podcast in a way that is addressing, you know, what you want it to address. So if you have those questions about Pilates, about a class, about anything, like reach out on Instagram or send me an email. [00:09:00] The easier email is just podcast@oliviabioni.com and yeah, let me know what you're thinking. And we can always hop on, have a chat, or maybe it becomes a podcast episode, like anything's possible, but I do want this podcast to continue to serve you as a Pilates enthusiast. So, um, yeah, reach out. Don't be a stranger.

I'm so, so, so excited to go on another one, wild adventure with you in podcast land. I'm so excited to be really committing to this podcast as well. It's going to be a hoot and a half. I already know, like this is going to be great. I've got some awesome stuff lined up for you already. And all of that stuff is a little bit subject to change. So reach out, let me know what you think, and I'll be back and better than ever on July 2nd with a brand new episode of Pilates Students' Manual.

If you miss my [00:10:00] voice so much, and you want to learn about Pilates from the teacher point of view, head over to Teachers' Manual. Yeah, it's kind of interesting if you take classes to see how teachers are thinking about things as well. Um, so go ahead and check that out if you'd like, and I'll be back here in just a few. I hope you have a great couple of weeks and I'll talk to you again soon.
